Ready
DownloadPNG to ICO in 3 steps
- Choose a square PNG of your logo, ideally 256 × 256 px or larger.
- Press "Convert to ICO"; seven icon sizes are drawn and packed together.
- Download the .ico, rename it favicon.ico and upload it to your site.
Why ConvertKoala?
-
Every size in one file
Browser tabs use 16 px, the taskbar 32 or 48 px, desktop shortcuts up to 256 px. The .ico carries all seven.
-
Round logos stay round
Transparent PNG corners stay transparent in the icon, so a circular badge never shows a white square in the tab.
-
Odd shapes handled
A wide or tall image isn’t stretched. It’s centred on a transparent square, so proportions stay right.
-
Unreleased branding stays put
Your new logo is turned into an icon inside the browser. No server ever sees it before launch day.
Frequently asked questions
Which sizes are inside the .ico?
16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256 px. Browsers and Windows pick whichever fits the spot: 16 px for a tab, 32 px for a bookmark or taskbar, 256 px for large desktop icons.
How do I add the favicon to my website?
Rename the file to favicon.ico and upload it to the root of your site, so it opens at yoursite.com/favicon.ico; browsers check there automatically. Also add <link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico" sizes="any"> inside the <head> of your pages. WordPress users can set it under Appearance › Customize › Site Identity.
How do I use the .ico on a Windows shortcut or folder?
Right-click the shortcut, choose Properties › Change Icon › Browse and select your .ico. For a folder: Properties › Customize › Change Icon. Keep the .ico somewhere permanent, because Windows reads it from that path.
What PNG gives the best result?
A square image of at least 256 × 256 px with a transparent background and a simple, bold shape. Fine text and thin lines disappear at 16 px, so a single letter or symbol usually reads better than a full wordmark.
My image isn’t square. What happens?
It’s scaled to fit and centred on a transparent square canvas, leaving empty space above and below (or at the sides). For a tighter icon, use Crop Image with the 1:1 ratio first.
Why did my favicon not change after uploading?
Browsers cache favicons stubbornly. Hard-refresh the page (Ctrl + F5), open it in a private window, or add a version to the link, such as /favicon.ico?v=2.
