JFIF to PNG in 3 steps

  1. Choose the .jfif images you downloaded.
  2. Press "Convert to PNG"; each picture is decoded and saved losslessly.
  3. Download the PNG, or a ZIP when you converted several.

Why ConvertKoala?

  • Opens in every editor

Some apps and upload forms reject .jfif even though it’s a JPEG inside. PNG is accepted almost everywhere.

  • Edit without more loss

Saving a JPEG again and again adds blur each time. A PNG copy can be edited and re-saved as often as you like.

  • A folder at a time

Got a week of downloads to fix? Drop them all; each becomes a PNG and they arrive together in a ZIP.

  • Stays on your computer

Pictures are converted inside your browser and never uploaded or kept anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

What is a .jfif file?

A JPEG image with an unusual extension. JFIF is the standard way JPEG photos are stored, and some Windows PCs make Chrome and Edge save downloaded JPEGs as .jfif instead of .jpg.

Should I convert to PNG or JPG?

PNG if you plan to edit the picture or a form asks for PNG. If you just need a normal photo file to share, JFIF to JPG keeps the file small.

Will the PNG look better than the .jfif?

No. The PNG is an exact copy of what the .jfif shows, including any blur or blockiness it already has. PNG simply stops further quality loss from here on.

Why is the PNG so much bigger?

JPEG throws away detail to stay small; PNG stores every pixel exactly. A photo can easily be 3 to 5 times larger as a PNG. That’s the price of a lossless copy.

Will the background become transparent?

No. A .jfif has no transparency, so the PNG keeps the same solid background. Converting changes the format, not the content of the picture.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Each file is decoded and saved as PNG by your own browser. Nothing is sent to our servers, and nothing is kept once you close the page.
